Conversation recorded on July 28, 2025.
This is the second part of a two-part conversation with Nishaan Sharma. The first part was posted on Nishaan’s Substack, Notes From Hiroshima. Before listening to this podcast, it is strongly recommended that listeners start with Part 1. Much of what we discuss here only makes sense in light of the context provided in the prior episode.
Previously, Nishaan presented his (incomplete and tentative) model to account for the trajectory of moral progress over time. Here, we continue to explore the scope of his model, and to discuss ideas related to morality and progress. Our conversation was informal, flexible, and offered in the spirit of “playing with ideas.” (For my part, this is not to suggest that ideas aren’t to be taken seriously, but that there is value in creating a space for relaxed and open-ended collaboration between individuals with very different approaches.)
